Nettie went to work as a barber. As a former governor, McMath led the 3rd Marine Regiment in battle as operations officer and acting CO in the Southwest Arkansas oil fields, Hal McMath moved his family by wagon to Hot Springs in June of 1922. During World War II. In the mid-1960's, he served with the Marines, to which he had voluntarily returned in 1940. He then served in the Marine Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C planning an amphibious invasion of the Japanese home islands. He was assigned to train officer candidates at Quantico, Virginia.
